Amaç:

Various associations between activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) and the occurrence of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) has been reported. The aim of the present study was to retrospectively investigate the association between the aPTT and the occurrence of acute ischemic stroke in case-control design.

Gereç ve Yöntem:

Hospital records of 493 patients admitted at the University Clinic of Neurology presenting with AIS and 127 patients where AIS was excluded were included in the analysis, for the time frame of the from 01-01-2017 to 31-12-2018. The records contained data patient’s demographics, follow-up computed tomography for confirmation of AIS, medical history and aPTT values measured in the first 12 hours of hospital admission.

Bulgular:

Of all 675 candidates for analysis recorded to have AIS in the presented time range, the records of 493 (75%) patients sufficient and proper medical records on the variables of interest, while from 279 patients where AIS was excluded, records of 127 patients (45.5%) were with complete documentation. The mean age of the cases group was 67.4 years (SD +- 6.2 years), while the mean age of the control group was 63.7 years (SD +- 8.4 years). Comparison of both groups with independent t-test yielded reverse, albeit insignificant statistical association (p = 0.08).

Sonuç:

Our data renders the investigation of aPTT as a biomarker of stroke as potential aid in the acute differentiation of patients presenting with ischemic stroke.
